Stamp collecting is known as Philately  and is a very rewarding hobby because it immensely enhances the general knowledge of the collector.

Through stamp collecting, one finds information about currency, science, history, architecture, politics, arts, customs and rituals of different peoples and countries of the world.

All this besides being a very relaxing pastime.
