South Jersey, particularly the Pine Barrens, is rich in folklore. The most well known folktale in New Jersey is, of course, the story of the Jersey Devil. There are many other folktales associated with South Jersey. Most of these stories are becoming as extinct as the dinosaur. The purpose of this web page is to keep these stories alive. These folktales recall a simpler, less cynical time when families would gather around candlelight telling stories for entertainment.
