In January of 2000, Fidel suffered burns on his face, neck, back and chest as a result of propane explosion. The Mary Bloom Center has helped him with two operations, medicines and various consultations. When he first came for help, his arms were so inflexible he was like a robot. He needs a further operation to free his hand to be able to do manual labor in order to provide for his three school age children. You may help Fidel by making a check to "Holy Family Parish" (9622-20th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106) and write "Fidel" or "burn victim" in the memo.
August 2003 Update: A team of specialists will be in Puno this September. Luz Marron (director of Mary Bloom Center) has arranged for Fidel to receive an operation on September 15:
