Light Mysteries

From: Mary B
Subject: "The Light Mysteries"

Father,

Can you tell me anything about the Light Mysteries that some say has been or will be added to the rosary. If it is being changed when and why?

Thank you. God bless you,

Mary B

Dear Mary,

Pope John Paul introduced the Light Mysteries (or Luminous Mysteries) when he announced the Year of the Rosary last October. The idea was to compliment the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries with five from the public ministry of Christ: his baptism, changing water to wine at Cana, preaching of the kingdom and call to repentance, Transfiguration, and Last Supper. There are many websites which explain the mysteries, when and how to pray them. They are not obligatory, but are a beautiful compliment to the traditional mysteries.

God bless,

Fr. Bloom
