Vasectomy & Sperm Sample

Can Wife Masturbate Husband?

Subject: Sperm Sample You advised this man that a morally acceptable method of obtaining a was integral intercourse with one's wife. I am presuming you mean vaginal intercourse. Unfortunately, according to the doctors and nurses, a sperm sample must only be done by masturbation because the sample can not be contaminated with vaginal fluids.

My recommendation would be that the wife masturbate the man to obtain the sperm sample. Would this be acceptable?

By the way, I came across your article because I, myself, had a vasectomy six weeks ago, and my doctor is requesting a sperm sample now, and in two more weeks, so as to give me a "clean bill of health", so to speak. That is, that I am sterile.

Thank you for your time.

Walt

**********

Dear Walt,

I did not go into all the details, but medical people tell me there is a specially made (perforated) condom which can be used to morally obtain a sperm sample.

About vasectomy the Catechism (teaching of Jesus) has this to say:

"The regulation of births represents one of the aspects of responsible fatherhood and motherhood. Legitimate intentions on the part of the spouses do not justify recourse to morally unacceptable means (for example, direct sterilization or contraception). " (#2399)

Anyway, what's done is done, altho I understand if you have a change of mind it could undone. Sincerely,

Fr. Phil Bloom
