First of all, I wanted to let you know how delighted I am at finding a useful website.
I'll make it short and simple as I can imagine you are a very busy man.
Why are we, as Catholics, not to eat meat (with the exception of seafood) on Fridays during Lent? I've always followed this tradition but I now seem to lack the knowledge behind this practice. Any additional information on how to observe this special Holy season would be quite helpful as well.
Thank you for your time and many blessings to you for the knowledge you have already provided to many others!

Dear Socorro,
I am sorry to be so slow getting back to you. An Alabama college student also asked about Meatless Fridays During Lent. I hope you find that helpful.
Basically every Friday should be a day of some act of penance in honor of Jesus' crucifixion and to unite ourselves more deeply to him. While giving up meat is not such a big thing, it can serve to remind us of how much he suffered for us and that we need to practice discipline in our lives so that we do not so easily succumb to temptations. Do you see what I mean, Socorro?
I hope you have good plans for the summer. My prayers are with you.
God bless,
Fr. Phil Bloom
