UPDATE April 20, 1997
Hi everyone...we just got
back from the clinic, where they do Steven's test. The test they did today
was another bone marrow aspiration..which gives them a chance to look at
the marrow close up and tell how much Luekemia he has at the moment.
The doctor confirmed that he was definately out of remission..it is the
same cells he saw before..he said they had very obvious characteristics,
so he was certain. The amount Steven has now in one hip was 6% and the
other hip was 13% bad cells.
He said it has to be below 9 % to do bone marrow transplant. The
are discussing how and when and what course of action they will take.
They are immediatly looking for a bone marrow donar, and if he has a match
tomorrow he will do it right away..the idea is to do the match when they
are as "healthy as can be"..Steven is still running around playing, but
as the cancer cells grow he will feel sick and hurt all over again. The
doc said the chances are drastically lowered when he came out so soon and
wanted us to know how serious this is..but he said there is hope and options
still..which we hold on to..
We are going to start immediatly looking for donars...but we are
learning how to become one..call your local hospitals and find out how
you can do it. There are so many children like Steven. The big demand
right now is for hispanics, blacks and anyone from an "ethnic". They
haven't very many donars at all. Of course the family is taking it hard..
Steven is such a wonderful and
viberant child...
Spread the word...we'll be sending links to everyone real soon...
just get everyone you know tested or to be ready to be tested..
