"Trust And Obey"
Jeremiah 17: 7
Blessed is the man who trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. John H. Sammis was born July 6, 1846 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a businessman and YMCA worker and in 1880 he was ordained a Presbyterian minister. He also taught at the Los Angeles Bible Institute. In 1886 Professor Daniel. B. Towner, a friend of Mr. Sammis, was at a evangelistic crusade in Brockton, Massachusetts, by Dwight L. Moody. A man had stood to give his testimony and he finished by saying, “I`m not quite sure, but I`m going to trust, and I`m going to obey.” Mr. Towner wrote down the words and sent them to John Sammis, who wrote the well-known chorus telling about the young man`s testimony:
For there`s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey
The hymn beginning, "When we walk with the Lord," and also the tune, was composed by Daniel B. Towner.

Not a shadow can rise,
Not a burden we bear,
But we never can prove
