Artist of the Century

~Elvis Presley~

The Hillbilly Cat; Elvis the Pelvis; the King of Rock 'n' Roll; Million-Dollar Actor; the World's Greatest Entertainer! These are names given to Elvis to describe the diffrent phases of his career.

Gladys Presley gave birth to twin sons Jessie Garon and Elvis Aron on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississsippi. Her first baby, Jessie, arrived stillborn. A half hour later Elvis was born.

Elvis was a man of great talent. Over 1 Billion of his records sold. More than anyone in record history.
He has had 130 diffrent singles and albums certified Gold, Platinum, or multi-Platinum.

Elvis starred in 31 feature films as an actor. His most critically acclaimed ones are Jailhouse Rock (1957) and King Creole (1958). For a number of years he was one of the highest paid actors.

Elvis did 3 television specials.
1) Elvis (1968)-most critically acclaimed music special of all time
2) Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii: via satellite (1973)-aired in 40 countries, seen by 1 billion to 1.5 billion people and made television history-This special was seen in more American homes than man's 1st walk on the moon!!!
3) Elvis in Concert (1977)

Elvis was awarded in 1970 at the age of 35 for being named "One of Ten Most Outstanding Young Men of the Nation", by Jaycees

Elvis was not just a great entertainer he was a man with a loving and giving heart. He was known for his charitable contributions and for giving freely to his friends and their family.(and even people he didn't know)

Elvis Aaron Presley died of heart failure at Graceland on August 16, 1977. He was 42 years old.

Elvis was named after is Father Vernon Elvis Presley and his good friend Aaron Kennedy. "Aron" was the spelling the Presley's chose, to resemble his twin brother's middle name "Garon". Toward the end of his life Elvis sought to change the spelling to the traditional and biblical "Aaron", in the process he learned that the official state records had listed it as "Aaron" anyway, and not "Aron" as on his original birth records. "Aaron" is the spelling his family chose for his tombstone.

As a HUGE fan I could probably tell you anything and everything that has been written about Elvis Presley. I have several books about him, pictures, music, movies and even an original newspaper from Aug. 16, 1977 announcing his death. I've been to Graceland 3 times and to his birth house in Tupelo once.
