William T. Blair was born in Watauga County and resided there as a  farmer prior to enlisting in Company E on September 18, 1861.  He was 18 years old at the time.  He was captured at Hanover Court House on May 27, 1862, and confined at Fort Columbus, New York.  Blair was paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing on the James River, Virginia, on August 5, 1862.  He returned to duty prior to August 29, 1862, when he was wounded in the knee at the battle of 2nd Manassas.  He was absent wounded from November 18 until December 1863.  In December he was detailed as a teamster and served in this position until rejoining his company in November-December, 1864.  He was present through February 1865.  Private Blair is buried in the Old Boone City Cemetery in Watauga County, North Carolina.
