| The "Ashe Beauregard Riflemen" was raised in Ashe County and enlisted in Jefferson on August 27, 1861. The company was mustered into state service on November 20, 1861, and assigned to the 37th Regiment of North Carolina Troops as Company A. Their captain was 43 year old John Hartzog. |
