| The "Watauga Marksmen" was raised in Watauga County and enlisted on September 14, 1861, in Boone. The "Marksmen" were mustered into the service of the state on November 20, 1861, and assigned to the 37th Regiment of North Carolina Troops as Company B. Their first captain was 55 year old Jonathan Horton. |
