Men from Watauga, and later Alexander County, made up the "Watauga Minute Men". They enlisted on September 18, 1861, in Watauga County. They were mustered into state service on November 20, 1861, and assigned to the 37th Regiment of North Carolina Troops as Company E. Their first Captain was 49 year old William Young Farthing. |
