Tom Edens, 40, an activist for AIDS awareness passed from this
earth to be with God and the Angels, October 22, 1999.........................
Tom co-founded the Indiana chapter of the NAMES PROJECT,
the national AIDS quilt organization in 1992.
A public speaker for human immunodeficiency virus and
AIDS awareness and education, Tom took panels of the quilt
to church groups and high schools throughout the state to
educate others about AIDS.
He was also a fun raiser for the Damien Center and other
organizations devoted to HIV and AIDS education.
He organized the first Super Star Awards Gala, an event
that recognizes volunteers. service providers, and care
givers for their efforts in the fight against AIDS.
Involved in other fund-raising endeavors, he was chairman
of the 1997 Christmas Carol Concert at the Vogue, which
benefited Parkview Manor Healthcare.
A country and gospel music artist, Tom had managed a music
theater in Branson,MO., where he also had performed with the
Ozark Mountain Boys. He had made several recordings, the
latest with the group "Deep River".
His professional music career was the realization of a
lifelong dream to entertain others with music that mattered.
"God made that dream possible. I know it," he told
The Indianapolis Star in 1997. "But you never know
where God's going to take you."
That year, he published Singing My Song. An
autobiography about his religious faith and living 12 years
with AIDS. In the book, he told of how religious music helped him express his faith in God.
"There is no other form of music that gives me such an uplifting
and peaceful feeling." he wrote.
