Peter Dorst
Peter and Henry Dorst were the sons of Jacob and Mary Dorst. Jacob was born in Bavaria, Germany abt 1774, and Mary was born there, abt 1793. Mary's maiden name is unknown. They were married in Germany and came to America in 1839 with their sons and their families. They all settled in Meigs County, Ohio. Jacob and Mary died there, although the dates are unknown to me.
PETER DORST I
Peter came to America with his parents and a spouse. The early census show him as head of household and a female named Sophia, who was several years older than him. It is said that his first wife was very sickly. Mary Hagerman came to America from Germany with the Wills family. She cared for Peter's wife, and after the death of Sophia, Mary and Peter were married on August 10, 1869 in Meigs County, OH. Peter was born on February 2, 1802 in Bavaria Germany and he died in 1878 in Meigs County. He was gored by a bull, which Mary lured from him. He recoverd from that injury only to be claimed by pneumonia about 6 months later. Mary Hagerman was born on April 29, 1827 in Mecklenberg, Germany. She died on September 13, 1908 in Meigs County, Ohio. She and Peter had 4 children: Peter II, Jacob, Frederika and Minnie. Minnie was born June 23, 1870, the twin of Jacob and died the same day.
PETER DORST II
Peter Dorst II was born on March 30, 1866 in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio, the son of Peter Dorst I and Mary Hagerman Dorst. Peter's first wife was Ella Swan Lawrence. I know nothing of this union. He then married Edna Belle Osborn who was born on October 19, 1869. They were married on August 29, 1893 in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio. Peter died on February 3, 1952 in Long Bottom, Meigs County, Ohio. Edna Belle died there on July 18, 1926. They had the following children: Albert Ross b. April 4, 1892, Maude Mae b. November 17, 1893, Emma Bell b. November 14, 1895, Nellie Leona b. March 17, 1897, Minnie Amelia b. August 25, 1899, Ralph Ernest b. September 17, 1902, Coretta b. June 8, 1905 and Frank Nile b. November 1, 1908.
JACOB DORST
Jacob Dorst was born in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio on June 23, 1870, the son of Peter Dorst I and Mary Hagerman Dorst. He married Rose Belle Powell in Meigs County on July 5, 1896. Rose Belle was born on November 14, 1876 in Meigs County, and she died there on March 22, 1966. Jacob died in Pomeryoy on April 4, 1956. The had the following children: Ernest Ross b. March 22, 1920, Flooie Mae b. December 7, 1899, Alfed Edgar b. February 3, 1902, Mary Ernestine b. August 11, 1905, Carl Ivan b. January 26, 1908, Clair Milford b. February 14, 1911, Archie Melvin b. March 19, 1913, Pearl Richard b. June 18, 1915, Johnny W. b. May 24, 1897 d. April 27, 1898, Clarence Edgar b. April 20, 1900 d. July 11, 1900, and an infant son who was born and died on November 9, 1903.
FREDERIKA DORST
Frederika Dorst was born on February 29, 1864 in Chester Township near Keno, Meigs County, Ohio, the daughter of Peter Dorst I and Mary Hagerman Dorst. She married William Henry Bentz, son of Henry J. Bentz and Barbara Brook Bentz of Germany. They were married in Meigs County on August 29, 1880. William was born January 17, 1859 in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio and died in Meigs County on April 4, 1920. Frederika died there on September 12, 1955. They had the following children: Floyd Lewis b. April 16, 1909 d. June 2, 1984, Henry b. May 15, 1881 d. May 4, 1942, Mary Ida b. October 2, 1883 d. March 9, 1973 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, OH, Eva May b. March 6, 1886 d. December 18, 1949 in Akron, OH, George b. March 6, 1886 d. August 1, 1997, Bertha Bell b. April 12, 1892 in Long Bottom, Meigs County, OH d. May 29, 1992 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, OH, Anna b. June 23, 1895 d. June 3, 1978, Bessie LaVina b. August 16, 1897 d. February 27, 1983, Clarence b. March 15, 1901 d. September 19, 1984 in Wellsville, Columbiana County, OH, Helen born November 7, 1903, and an infant son who was born April 12, 1891 and died April 14, 1891.
BERTHA BELL BENTZ
Bertha Bell was born in Meigs County, Ohio on April 12, 1892, the daughter of Frederika Dorst Bentz and William Henry Bentz. She married Charles Walton Baker, the son of Washington Reed Baker and Aura Virginia March Baker. She and Charles were married on October 26, 1909 by the Rev. E. M. McMillan in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio. Charles died on July 15, 1933 of pneumonia, leaving behind his wife and 3 children. Bertha never remarried. She worked in the pottery and worked the farm to see her children raised. She died on May 29, 1992 at the age of 100 years old. Bertha and Charles had the following children: Leora b. September 18, 1912 d. December 1996, Ross William b. August 29, 1915 d. December 7, 1994 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio, Kendall Woodrow b. December 3, 1916 in Portland, Meigs County, OH d. October 13, 1994 in Beaver County, PA. Charles, Bertha, and all of the children are buried in Riverview Cemetery, East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.
KENDALL WOODROW BAKER
Kendall Woodrow Baker was born December 3, 1916 in Portland, the son of Charles Walton Baker and Bertha Bell Bentz Baker. He married Ruth Elizabeth Jones who was born on February 27, 1918 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, OH, the daughter of Benjamin F. Jones and Anna Mabel Riddle Jones. They lived in Columbiana County, raising a family of 5 daughters on a farm. Ruth died on August 3, 1978 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. Kendall died in Beaver County, PA on October 13, 1994. They are both buried in the Riverview Cemetery, East Liverpool, OH. Their children were: Bonnie Lynn, Diana, Nancy, Linda, and Karen.
BONNIE LYNN BAKER
Bonnie Lynn Baker was born in 1940 in Columbiana County, Ohio. She married Charles Lee Ryan who was born in 1938 in Chester, Hancock County, WV, the son of Robert James Ryan and Ileen Rose Hulderman Ryan. Their children are: Janet Lee, David Arthur, and Diana Lynn.
