Thanksgiving Day comes once a year.
It started long ago
when pilgrims were new to this land of ours
with nowhere else to go.

Pilgrims and Indians

They met the local people
sometime after they did arrive
who taught them several things
that helped them to survive.

Together they did celebrate,
that fact is certainly true.
But all the facts are just not there
in history books we view.

So let us take this time to think
about the other side.
Try to learn what has been said.
Let your heart be your guide.

pilgrims and indians

The natives and the pilgrims
did not always agree.
Communication wasn’t there
too bad for you and me.

So when you sit to give God thanks
on this one day each year
remember the indians, proud people they
and hold them in your heart dear.

And don't forget on other days
to give thanks to God above.
One day is just not enough
to send Him all your love.

Table set with Thanksgiving dinner

So now it’s time to sit right down
and enjoy your Thanksgiving feast
of turkey, potatoes, gravy and yams,
cranberry jelly and bread made with yeast.

Oh, I won’t forget the stuffing
or the apple and pumpkin pies
or whatever else you enjoy on this day.
The cook waits for those satisfied sighs.
