THIS OLD HOUSE.
My father, Luther D. Lane and
I were supposed to be hunting, when we passed this old house.
I knew two things, when I saw it, I wanted a picture and I didn't
want to get shot. I drove past the house a ways and used a telephoto
lens. When I got back into the truck, dad told me, he helped
build the old house when was 12 years old. [ about 1923] He was
farmed out to the owners for the winter and this
was one of the chores.
A word of explanation about
the spelling of the LANE/LAYNE family name. Part of my family
use the spelling LAYNE and some LANE. My father and mother and
brothers DONALD, BOBBY, DELBERT AND RAYBURN use the LAYNE while
'myself' THURMAN DWIGHT AND BROTHER BOYD use the spelling LANE.
In my father's family, LUTHER,
FLOYD and IRA 'JACK' used the LAYNE spelling while ARTHUR, CLEDITH,
OZELLA, PAULINE and GEORGE used the spelling LANE. LANE was the
spelling used by my grandfather, CHARLES RICHARD LANE and records
indicate LANE was used by the oldest LANE family member BYRD
LANE.
