My hedgehog's name is Paul. The reason is because my cousin
had a chinchilla that he loved very much and it died in 1 year.
I liked the name and always wanted to name a pet that.
Also its my favorite character's name on a game that I'm addicted to.

My hedgehog's name is Swizzle. My favorite word from a short story is
Swizzleskid (Harlan Ellison), and he does make little swizzling noises
when he sniffs and licks things.

I named (actually me and my class of fourth graders) my hedgehog
Hermione after Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. After all, Hermione
Granger was the only one who could successfully turn a pin cushion into
a hedgehog in transformation class:-)

My little girls name is Harley. When she huffs and snuffle, she sounds like a harley starting up. It is adorable, but now that she is getting used to us, we don't hear it as often as we did when she first came home.

I got my Hedgehog, about 2 months ago. I named him
Birch because when I was doing my research on them i discovered that there
natural habitats were in the woods etc. and he has a lot of white quills
with very few dark brown bands on them. I thought he looked like a birch
tree!

The name I chose for my Hedgehog is Oop!! Yes, no poop or oops but Oop.
I live in Calgary and at the zoo there is fennec foxes and i went in the
zoo keepers kitchen and was face to face with 4 fennec foxes and my
favorite fennec fox's name was Oop! So that's why her name is Oop!

I got my hedgie in January. I had named him Urchin but about a month later I named him Nestly. Most people name their pets "Hershey". But I changed the brand. I found out my little guy Nestly, His nickname is Nesso I'm not sure why,
but it is.

I have a 2 year, 8 month old hedgehog. His name is Hedgie.
He is very loving and very inquisitive. I have taught him to squeak for me when he wants treats. I'm a " happy - slave "
to my little friend. He loves fresh cooked chicken and a
capful of fresh Milk , for an occasional treat.

We have 2 adult hedgies. The female came home first and my daughter and her girlfriends named her Haley, then a few weeks later came her boyfriend, Shaggy named after the singer of "Angel" a song that was popular when he arrived here. They are now the proud parents of 5 hoglets, which I'm in the process of naming now. They are 3 weeks old and just now showing personality. 1 male 4 females! A great hobby!

I have an 8 week old baby girl hedgie whom I named Chellie (pronounced Ch - not Sh). She is named for my favorite NHL hockey player, Chris Chelios, whose nickname is Cheli! Her brother (who belongs to my sister) is named Kip. He's such a little guy, he needed a little name! :)

One of my hedgehogs is a little girl named Skeezix, because when my dad first saw her, he said "well, how's that little skeezix today?" Skeezix is a male character from an old comic strip called Gaseline Alley, but she's a little tomboy and Skeezix just suits her.

Louise: Our longest resident at the Rescue, Louise is a long eared desert hedgehog who joined us as a youngster after two families brought her back to a pet store and demanded their money back because Louise was "too wild." Slated for euthanasia because she was considered unsaleable, we took her in. A little wild woman she was, but never unfriendly, we named her Louise because we already had a hedgehog named Thelma.
Little Flash: Named after our original hedgehog Flash, Little Flash was so named due to the similarities in appearance and personality to the original Flash, who was so named due to her ability to disappear so quickly.
Angel: Named for her white color (she was our first albino) and also due to the opposite of her disposition upon arrival. Angel and another hedgehog, Grumpy, were turned over to us because they would not breed and were too ornery to sell. Since that time (July 12, 1998), Angel has done a complete turnaround and has become very sweet-tempered.
Vula indlela: The first of our African traditional tribal language named hedgehogs. If no other name prevails, then we give a traditional African native name in honor of their native African heritage. Vulie was donated to the Rescue as an educational hedgehog and was our first cinnacot colored hedgehog. He has fulfilled his educational role well because he acts as a hedgehog should - rolls up, hisses, pops, but then unrolls and runs all over. Vula indlela means "to make open the way."
Sweetie: As with many of our rescues, Sweetie arrived with that name. However, she was far from a sweetie and is still fairly feisty.
Izigqi: Proper pronunciation of this Zulu name requires a "click" on the third syllable, an almost impossible sound to make for non-natives. Izigqi entered the Rescue named "Sonic." We do change hopelessly common or "goofy" hedgehog names. Well, sonic means "sound" and Izigqi has only three feet, so he makes a strange but unmistakable sound when walking (pat-pat-pat-clunk). Hence, his name means "the sound of footsteps."
Bonnie and Clyde: A pair of hedgehogs named Bonnie and Clyde arrived from the Denver Dumb Friends League. Both were combative biters when they came in the door. Both have sweetened remarkably. Bonnie is here as a rescue resident and Clyde is fostered out and is having a ball in Colorado Springs.
Thembekele: Means "trustworthy" in the native language. Themb. has turned out to be anything BUT! He has replaced the late Bozeman as the resident escape artist.
Ukuqambe: Entered the rescue with the name of "Gizmo," which we thought was not very dignified. Ukuqambe means "gizmo" in Zulu but we think it sounds more dignified.
Shakespeare: This is his original name and he came to us at over 4 years of age.
Otis: Named after an old mountain man biker who volunteers from time to time at the Rescue.
Spiegel: Donated as a therapeutic hedgehog by High Country Hedgies, the names means "mirror" in German.
Xena, Prickles, and Grouchy retained their original names upon arrival. However, Xena is the grouchy one and the other two have become very mellow.
Sigmund Pogstein: It is a very long story! Given up by a college student who had to move into the dorm, Sigmund's parents also had Jewish names - Isidore and Sadie.
Lt. General Cactus Jack: A rescue from Connecticut, CJ made the journey here from abused pet store hedgehog to commander of the III Hedgehog Corps.
Ithemba: Meaning faith and hope in one word, Ithemba was rescued from Pet Warehouse in Joplin, MO, by Becca Loane.
Mariah was born in Colorado Springs and joined Dawn Wrobel's breeding program near Chicago, but was retired when several of her offspring contracted WHS, the degenerative myelopathic disease called "wobbly hedgehog syndrome." A chronic biter upon arrival, she mellowed out completely in her new foster home.
Ralphie, Hedgeley, Hermine, Nibletts, Tiny Tim, Chester, and Annie retained their original names upon arrival at the Rescue.
Winfield was originally named Willie, but looked and acted so much like the legendary Canadian hedgehog Renfield that we changed his name slightly.
Mackenzie Grizzle Spikers is a pet store rescue taken in by Sherry Arata and named as a joint effort by Sherry and Susan Morrison. A chocolate white male, he is the same color but of a much smaller size than his semi-namesake, the late Major General Spikers.
Waylon, Senior, and Waylonne are the parents of the late Waylon, the first hedgehog to win permanent Grand Champion status of the International Hedgehog Club. All three are albinos, as are Alberta and Manitoba, who were born in Canada.
Our other traditional African language named hedgehogs are:
Uzulane - the wanderer
Mbiza - travels at great speed
Mnene - kind, gentle
Vunulisa - of great beauty
Lolita, a rescue from the Seattle area picked up the additional name Lolita Rose upon entry as she is missing her right eye, as was our late rescue, Rose.
The two young men born at the Rescue to entering pregnant moms, The Wingman (Uzulane's baby) and Bozenut (Hermine's baby) were named after two late legendary hedgehogs, the Wingnut and Bozeman.
Abednego was one of four rescue baby hedgehogs from Pet Warehouse in Joplin, MO, which included three males named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, of Christian Biblical fame. Shadrach and Meshach both died of congenital diseases.
Warren was so named after the epic novel War and Peace. A young man's friend had a mellow hedgehog named Peace, but his new hedgehog was anything but mellow, so he named him "Warren" to complete the phrase "war and peace" or "warren peace." Warren has mellowed considerably since his arrival earlier this year but still chomps of folks from time to time.

I have 4 hedgehogs - one male and 3 females.
Boris was the first hedgehog I got. My fiance thought we should name him
Boris, as that "sounds like a good name for a big, tough hedgehog." Now that
we have him though, he's anything but tough - he's a sweetie! We got him
from a friend of mine who's a breeder, and once I told her what his name
would be, she named his sister Natasha.
The 3 females all came together as a group - one adult and two 4 week old
babies (not hers, but she'd been nursing them and raising them). I named
the adult Spriggat, which comes from one of Brian Jacques' books. In
the book, Spriggat the hedgehog was a kindly older 'hog who looked after
two young woodland animals who off on an adventure. The little ones are
Sage and Pickle. Sage is definitely the wiser of the two, and little Pickle
got her name because she was always trying to follow after Spriggat, but
since she wasn't quite big enough to climb all the obstacles, she was always
"getting herself into quite a pickle."

Hi, my name is Rickey and my hedgie's name is Ms. Quilla Prickly. She resided in a classroom this past year, and since I'm a retired teacher, she was given to me because the teacher who had her didn't want to keep her over the summer. I have only had her for four days, but she is a sweet little critter who is very quickly becoming not so prickly.

My first hedgehog was named Durian after the chinese fruit that is smelly
and spikey, because Durian was well. . .spikey and smelly. My little guy
is gone and I couldn't bear to go on without another hedgie in my life, so
I convinced my boyfriend to pick out a hedgie for him (us) and we picked
out our little girl Van Gogh from a pet store in February 2001. We chose
the name Van Gogh because she was missing an ear (left) as it appeared
that it was taken off by a sibling. fiesty little girl, the tom-boyish
name fits.

I have a 5 month old male hedgie named Dinsdale. Although first thing in the evening when he wakes up grumpy, he is most definately a Spiny Norman. It's a Monty Python thing.

Hi there, we are hedgehog lovers from the Netherlands and we have 5
hedgehogs. We were just look around for names for the last two new ones,
their albino's. For three of them we already have names, our first hedgy (a
male) is named Snuitje that's a Dutch name for ehm..Sniffles I believe.
The
second one (a female) is named Buffy after Buffy the vampire-slayer but she
is a very nice hedgie. And our third one is Xena also named after the
television series, and she is a daughter from Snuitje and Buffy. And now we
are looking on your page for names to give to the albino's.
We name them Pixie and Poky.

I've had two hedgehogs. My first hedgehog I got as a naughty unwanted adult, and I named her Velcro because she was always getting things stuck to her quills, and after I had her awhile, I got a second little girl and named her Reggie. Though perhaps it's a boys' name, it just seemed to fit the active little girl!

ok, my hedgie's name is Murphy Lumpkins! He is only 7 weeks old, we
origanally wanted to name him Murphy, but my little sis didn't like that,
she wanted his name to be Fuzzy lumpkins, so then my dad said lets just call
him Murphy Lumpkins, that was ok with everybody, so that is now his name!

My African Pygmy Hedgehog's name is Yoshik, which is an endearing term for hedgehog in the Russian language. A friend has nicknamed him Jesus (pronounced the Spanish way) because of his "crown of thorns" and because he walks on water- trampling through his water bowl.

I got my Hedgehog June 12, 2001 and when I first saw him he was only about a month old and he rolled up in a little ball when, I first picked him up and my Mom said he looked like a little Tumbleweed so we named him that!

I rescued an adult hedgie from a pet store that was not treating it well. Once I got it home, the contest to name it began. I participate in an online community, so I throw it out to them, and we all agreed the best submission was Quiver. He still shakes nearly every time I open the cage door, so I think the name makes even more sense now that I know him better.

I have 2 hedgehogs that are exactly a year a part(they were both born on June 15). It took me a week to name my first one and another week to name my second.
Coconut is my oldest. She is now a year old. I named her Coconut because, at first all I saw of her was a prickly, very hard ball. Her spikes kind of reminded me of coconut flakes. Plus she is mainly brown on the outside of her ball, but her fur on the inside is white.
Kaos has finally been named this because she is pure trouble. She is impossible to control and is a wake seemingly 24 hours a day. She drives my other hedgehog crazy. Not to mention the fact that she is a pig. She eats then falls asleep in her food dish.

Hufflepuff is my new baby boy. Being under the influence of Harry
Potter, this seemed a natural name for a hedgehog. After being home less
than two weeks, however, he is "huffling" and "puffing" hardly at all!
(He did the first few days!)
