Our hearts are broken. Our sweet, precious Athena slipped away from us so suddenly. She had not been ill. She was eating, grooming, using the litter box and playing practically to the end.
We rescued her last year. We were feeding the feral colony that we tend. She was just an itty bitty thing about 3 weeks old or so. Her eyes were still blue. She had been getting up on the tray to feed from the dry food. She was in bad shape and we got her to the vet immediately. Within a day or so of care, she was on the mend. She was the most spunky, most curious kitty; always ready to get right in the middle of all the action. If there was nothing going on, she would bring a toy into the bathtub and play for the longest time. She and big brother, David, were the best of pals. She rousted around with all her big brothers and sister, Luna. She was the first to make it to the ledge when a window was open and even had to get up on the window when the lawn mowers were outside making their noise. Our sweet angel is now on the Rainbow Bridge. We will miss her immensely and know that for at least a short while we were able to give her a good home. Hug all your kitties close to you! Little did I know, that when leaving for work on Wednesday, it would be for the last time. Life is so fleeting, give thanks everyday for the prescence of our loved ones and let them know everyday how much you love them.
