It is told, that the Bevills had lived on the same land,in Huntingdon Co. England, for over 150 years, They had large nutmeg farms, with deer & fox, & packs of dogs. In 1762 three Bevill brothers came to America. Elisha settled in VA. near Richmond, William, settled in S.C. Union Dist. and Neal settled in GA.
William Bevill was in the War of the Revolution and was wounded at the battle of the Cowpens, shot through his right arm half way, between the elbow and shoulder. William was also a school teacher. He left to teach a school, in NC and his wife, never heard from him again.




 

Generation No. 1

Lucy Bevill, born June 11, 1819 in SC. She died Aft. 1870 in Winn Parish, La. Lucy  was the daughter of  Rardon Bevill and Mary Long. 

Lucy's first husband (? Porter) was shot and killed while plowing the field.  It was said that he had been in a land dispute over land lines.  The mother heard the children screaming and knew what had happened.   Tillet and Ann remembered their father, but the other children were to small.

 

Lucy Bevill Porter later married ,Edward Porter,  called Ned and Grandpa Ned by his grandchildren.  He was a first cousin to her first husband.  To this union three children (Jemima, Jerome, and Lucy) were born.

The family moved to Winn Parish in Louisiana and in 1857 lived at a place about two miles south of Winnfield at what was known as “The Foster Field”.  It was said that Lucy Porter was such an orderly housekeeper that she could put her hand on anything in her house on the darkest night.  The dates of her and her husbands deaths and where they are buried is not known.

Lucy Bevill was listed in the will of Elizabeth Long dated Nov. 28, 1836, as granddaughter.

Generation No. 2

  Rardon Bevill, born February 26, 1793 in Union Co. SC and died March 15, 1877 in Walker Co., Alabama.  He was the son of  Robert Bevill and Elizabeth Gilliam.  He married  Mary Long 1815 in SC.
Mary Long, born Abt. 1795; died October 1846 in Alabama.  She was the daughter of 6. ? Long and 7. Elizabeth Long.

Notes for Rardon Bevill:
RARDON BEVILL was born on 26 Feb. 1793 in Union County, SC,. He was a veteran of  the War of 1812.  He married Mary Long in SC and raised his family there (children listed below).  In the early 1840's they migrated to Shelby County, Alabama, with some of the Porter families.  Mary died in Shelby County on 3 Oct 1846, and on 22 March
1849, Rardon married Ruth Cost, born in 1825 in Shelby County, and daughter of Elijah Cost, born 1802 in NC, and his first wife, Elizabeth ________.
In the 1850 census of Shelby County, Rardon and Rutha had one child, Charles Bevill, age 11 months.  They moved from Shelby County that same year and settled at Peach Grove in Walker County, where Rardon received bounty land for his War of 1812 services, and in 1871 he began drawing a military pension of $12 per month, certificate #9083.  He died 12 March
1877 in Walker County, Alabama, and is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery about five miles south of Carbon Hill in Fayette County.  The Palmer Cemetery is just off Highway 102 at Townley, Alabama, in Walker County.
