The "Culinary Oddities" of Cincinnati, Ohio
Cincinnati's most noteworthy contribution to culinary history is one some natives own up to only sheepishly. We may eat Cincinnati chile once a week or more, but we won't always confess to loving it. But oh how we do.
Greater Cincinnati has more that 180 chili parlors __ more than one-third of all chili parlors in the United States. That doesn't even count dozens of other Cincinnati restaurants that offer Cincinnati chili without actually having the word "chilli" in their names. There's no denying Cincinnati's place in chili history, even if most Americans think of that lumpy Texas stuff as the genuine article. Cincinnati chili has spread to such far flung places as Chicago, Washington and Florida. Yet it gets little respect, particularly from many out-of-towners. During a concert appearance at Riverbend in 1994, Bette Midler called it "Satan's own baby food." Even Mayor Roxanne Qualls says she doesn't eat Cincinnati chili. Something about the soupy concoction atop the spaghetti is definitely un-hip. Yet it's ultimately heartwarming and keeps tugging you back. What could be more Cincinnatian?
The information above was taken from my favorite book:

I keep a copy of this book in my guest bedroom
for our Out-Of-Town guest that my kids drag home.
