For me, Rock and Roll is the 50's. Remember Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Chubby Checker, The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, Conway Twitty (yes in the 50's he was into Rock 'n'Roll), Jerry Lee Lewis, The Platters, the Beach Boys, Johnny Horton, Danny and the Juniors, and many more.
There were saddle shoes, poodle skirts, hula hoops.
Dances consisted of jives, twists, mashed potatoes, limbo.
Remember Drive-in movies (or passion pits as they were known), A & W Root Beer and Dairy Queen?
Motorcyles and black leather jackets (these were the cool dudes). Every mother told her girls to keep away from this crowd and every girl or boy was envious of them.
When rock and roll first arrived, it was thought to be "the be all and end all" of a "bad" era. It now seems to have been one of the "remember the good times". The teens of the 50's are now becoming the retirees of the 90's.
For those of you who "remember when" I have added a few links to take you back in time and help you reminisce.
