| I was diagnosed with PTC almost 12 years ago. I had been having extreme headaches and eye pain. My regular doctor was concerned because two years earlier I had been sick with encephelitis. He sent me to a Neurologist and had him check me out. |

The Neurologist looked into my eyes and told me to go straight to the imaging center for an MRI and CT Scan. He then instructed me to head straight to the hospital where I would have a Lumpar Punctur (Spinal Tap) the next morning. He told me not to go home but straight to those locations. This of course frightened me because I thought perhaps I had a real tumor. So I did exactly what he told me to do.
That night in the hospital, I had several doctors come look in my eyes to see the pressure. It was ok at first but since I already had this blinding headache, and the light they shined made it worse, I finally told them "ENOUGH!" The next day I had the LP and went home. The headache lessened for a few days then came back with a vengence. The doctor put me on Diamox 1000 mg to start. It seemes to help but it sure made my hands and feet tingle! I was also told to eat a lot of bananas and take pottassium supliments. The medicine helped with the headaches for a while but I hated the way it made me feel. But I guess it was better than the awful headaches. The following year I saw a different Neurologis. He did the LP and sent me home 45 minutes later. (This was on a Friday afternoon.) By the time I got home, my headache was horrible. He called in a perscription for a pain killer. But it didn't help. The next day the headache was so bad I couldn't move or talk. By Sunday I couldn't stop throwing up because of the pain. Finally on Monday morning he had me go back to the hospital and they did a blood patch on me. It turns out I had a leak in my spine where they did the LP and they had to close it up with the blood. |
