Revenge
from the moon or the sun.
It
was on a hot summer night that they were slain,
Those ghastly creatures that came like rain,
And filled the earth with abhorrid dread,
From the time they came till they were dead.
Some time had passed and all was quiet -
But danger lurked within the night.
Above
the earth were a hundred domes,
That whirled and turned and shone like chrome.
Not far below the people slept
While the domes from space on the green earth crept.
And then at morning as day was breaking
The humans had a rude awakening.
Concealed
in the shadows from up on high,
The sun was hidden from the sky,
As the raiders from space began to descend,
And bring their message - "this is the end".
One million craft and a million more -
There were a million times more than the time before.
The
trees and buildings for miles around,
Were broken and flattened and pressed to the ground
By the millions of crafts with the weight of lead,
The people inside were buried and dead.
And there they waited 'till the cool of night,
To start their revenge - to death they would fight!
At
six past six the first hatch turned,
Then two, then three, then a million wormed
From the crafts that brought them to slay or be slain,
But this time they'd brought a weapon for rain.
Then once again they hissed and foamed,
And from deep inside the creatures moaned.
A
leader arose and screamed and yelled,
Cursing the earth and damning to hell
The conquerers and victors from years before -
This screaming was joined by millions more.
Two halves he formed up into ranks,
To defy the British, Russians, the French and Yanks!
A
million or so re-entered their crafts,
And ascended up skyward - just leaving a draft.
For an hour or so they circled the sky:
All living things were doomed to die,
For they sprayed the clouds with terrestrial dust
And the clouds in the skies just turned to crust.
Every
cloud had vanished when the creatures returned,
To join the others - for revenge they yearned.
The earth grew dry and the heat intense,
As a creature yelled : "Attack commence"
They covered the plains like festering slime,
And moved so slowly - no worry of time.
The
people were thirsty, the earth was drying,
And cities and families by millions were dying.
We had to do something and there just wasn't time,
To halt the approach of the festering slime.
We called up our airforce, our navies, our tanks,
But the creatures just slew us as if we were ants.
We
spoke to our scientiests, our leaders; the Pope,
Who said : "Trust in the Lord and don't give up hope"
Two days had gone, there was no water on earth,
Yet plenty of children were still given birth,
Who would die by the creatures from the moon or the sun.
We had to do something but what could be done?
We
all gave up fighting and just turned to prayer,
Our ministers and preachers said : "Do not despair!"
Half the earth was destroyed and one half to go,
And the creatures advanced so slick and so slow!
Through the night we prayed - it was our only fight,
And a miracle happened at the end of the night.
There
wasn't a cloud over the earth in the sky,
And if not by the creatures, then by thirst we would die.
Suddenly the sky it did turn to dark grey,
And the people on earth continued to pray.
The heavens exploded and the creatures yelled,
And in a moment of glory were all damned to hell.
Though
there wasn't a cloud in the sky to be seen,
The creatures all moaned and started to scream.
For rain was falling from the sky above
And the people on earth just wept in pure love.
The creatures they trembled and tumbled around
And together with rain - soaked into the ground.
The
people were crying and kneeling and praying,
"A miracle! a miracle!" is what they were saying.
And so they prayed throughout that day,
And when evening came they heard a voice say:
"I have saved you my children this time from this horror,
Now just keep in mind Sodom - Gomorrah".
