Towards the end of 1998, several women on the quilting mail list named Quiltopia, discovered they each had something in common, their dislike for the traditional Sunbonnet Sue block. After much discussion on this via email, we formed a new group of swappers for Sunbonnet Sue blocks, with Janet Shurts as our swap hostess. Only, this would not be just ANY block swap! We would make blocks that showed the lovely Sue in some unflattering circumstances.
A private list of emailers was established for the sole purpose of being able to share our ideas about the blocks we would be making. The due date was to be Feb. 19. Many ideas came rolling in, some quite humorous, and some downright naughty. Below, you will see some of the creations that have been made. It is only meant in fun, of course, and should be looked at as such. We just let our twisted senses of humor take over and had fun with her. We hope you enjoy these blocks as much as we enjoyed making them.
Texas TartsThese first two images are of a block made by Peggy Raley of Texas. Peggy says "These ladies worked Post Office Street in Galveston about 50 years ago." |
