Stick & Puck's Home Page!
Yep! This is the future home of my two kitties' very own page! Check back some time and I will eventually have some real pics of them! To make a long story short, there were three kittens under the hood of his truck and three kittens under the hood of a neighbor's car. We got them all out and they scattered about the neighborhood. Later in the day, when I went to check the mail, I could hear a faint "meow" coming from my car! When I opened the hood, there was this tiny little kitten stuck under the hood. A neighbor and I tried like crazy to free him, but he was too far in. She pushed a broom handle in and he shot out the bottom of the car. He ran to another house, where a not-so-nice Chow lived! My neighbor, Candy, ran after the kitten and caught him. He was so skinny and frail looking. I didn't have the heart to turn him loose, so I put him in the carrier and took him into my garage. I then took him to my favorite vet to make sure he was okay, and to ask if they knew anyone who might want him. The veterinarian told me he knew of no one who might want the kitten, but I didn't want to keep him because of the "rumors" I had heard of male cats. The vet said he would euthanize the kitten or I could just turn him loose and he would probably be killed by a car. The thought of that terrified me. I took the kitten back home and called my husband and work. He reluctantly agreed to keep the cat. When he came home from work, he took one look at the kitten and fell in love with him. We decided we would try it and decide on a name later. I remember saying to my husband, "If only this kitten looked like Whiskers".
Lo and behold, the next day my neighbor, Candy, knocked on my door and said a lady (and I use that term loosely) down the street was kicking one of the kittens! My son, then 12, ran out the door and down the street to the aid of the kitten. The woman asked if that was his kitten and he said, "Well, it is now"! He came walking home with the kitten and...you won't believe it...she was the exact image of Whiskers! My heart just sank, because I knew there was no way my husband would allow TWO cats in our house. Candy said she would keep this kitten. When my husband returned home that day, I told him the tale of what had happened. He said he didn't think we should have two cats and it was a good idea Candy and her husband wanted to keep the other one. Not two hours later, Candy and her husband, Mike, came over and asked if we wanted to "trade" cats because the long hair on the female bothered her husband's allergies! I was all for it, but my husband said no; we had already taken the first one in and we couldn't just trade him...he said we would keep both of them!
So, that is how we ended up with two adorable cats. Of course, I haven't explained their names! Not typical names for a pet, you say? Well, my son was an avid hockey player at the time, thus the names "Stick" and "Puck"! Funny, but Stick, the male cat, is long and lean and kind of looks like a stick! And Puck, the female, is a bit heavier and kind of looks like a puck when she curls up in a ball!
...and that is the story of Stick and Puck, the two wonderful kittens who just happened to be in the right place at the right time to be taken in by a family who loves them very much. Our closest approximation as to when they were born is early February, 1993; we "adopted" them in April of that year! *Jeff's Page* *Thoughts* *My Cats* *Holiday Page* *Credits/Links* *Web Rings* *Animal Abuse* |
