There are so many good ones I hardly
know where to begin- but I have to start somewhere so:
This is the place I spend a lot of time and have a lot
of friends. It is divided into Conferences (Internet,
Current Events, Sports, Books, etc.) and Topics (like
Soccer, Sports Media, & the NL West in Sports). Each of
the Conferences has a host or hosts and anyone can start
a new topic. I've made most of my web-friends in the
Commons Conference and the PazWordCafe Conference and had
a lot of vitriolic arguments in the Current Conference.
There is literally something for everyone here.
You can register and take part (it's free!) and join a
world-wide community based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Actually this link goes to The Gate,
which is the on-line persona of the The Chronicle
Publishing Co., which also includes the "San Francisco
Examiner and KRON-TV, which are also accessible from
this site. Great columnists on these papers and Real
Audio things from KRON. Site includes a free feature
called "Fishwrap" that enables you to tailor a daily
newspaper to yourself and your interests and home-town.
Check it out.
This is the Sacramento Bee, my hometown newspaper. I
read here to keep up on the doings at home. They have a
good feature called "Smile"- a collection of funny
stuff every day, including the monologues of last
night's late TV shows.
You know this one- "All the News that's fit to print",
etc. I read here when something National or
International that really grabs me is going on.
You know this one, too. Colorful, rich site. I enjoy
their surveys and feedback- the most interactive of the
on-line news services.
"Bonds swings, the runners are going....back, back, back- it's OUTTA HERE!!
Superlatives escape me...
Trivia, Crosswords and a Jeopardy-like game against other on-line players.......more fun than a lit cigar up your nose.
This is a chat site, also available from IRC. They have many games going on, including a great trivia game called Ridiculist, which I am addicted to- See my pages devoted to the game and it's players HERE. A community has grown up among the players and they all live in a land called Virtual Djibouti, which also has an online presence, just beginning HERE. Come and play!
Western Athletic Conference Football- Go, Cougars!!!
Yoyodyne- Where The Future is Tomorrow
Here's a fun place. This site has all manner of games on-line and by e-mail. Prizes and fun and a great weekly newsletter, funny and well-written. I also get their Trivia-a-Day by e-mail; no prizes, just fun questions in that. I am a member of Club Yoyo- the Inner Circle of Coolness- you'd think they'd have a nifty .gif for us members to display, huh? I think I'll write and ask where it is.
This is a web white pages site- look up old friends and colleagues; get in major trouble with your current flame, LOL. Useful site for finding old flames and friends or flaming old friends. Also has an e-mail look-up and yellow pages,
etc.
This site tracks the on-line conferences and
BBS's and Usenet and is searchable by topic or by user-name of the poster. Trolling for trolls, LOL.
This is a searchable data-base of song lyrics, based in Switzerland. A wonderful idea. They have an "add" feature and a list of songs that they are looking for...not a complete list, yet, but will get closer the more it's used.
This is another oft-visited site, for me. They have hints, tips, tricks, downloads, patches, screen-savers, desktop themes, etc. for the Win95 user. Be there or be Mac. Come to think of it, given the recent news from Apple & Microsoft, maybe this site is for everyone.
Ms. Cherryh is a science fiction and fantasy writer. If you read F & SF and don't know her work you owe it to yourself to go here. She is a multiple award winner in the field. I love her work and her web-site. She maintains the site herself, displays her pics, gives her appearance schedule and the schedule of her new releases along with excerpts from some of her work. There is a lot more, yet, to the site....check it out.
The Journal of Nursing Jocularity
The J.N.J. is an absolute must for people working in Health Care, and the humor is broad enough for the casual reader, too. We always looked forward to the new issue when I was working in that field. This has a pretty good archive of back issues.
If you find a broken link please
so I can fix it
or take it off the page. Thanks, and thanks for visiting-
while you are here won't you sign the......
