"Trucker Angels"

by Doug Heitland

I am very skeptical of some stories that I have read about angels floating overhead or appearing,
as a dead relative, but I believe that these creations of God do exist.
I believe that sometimes people serve as God's protective agents without realizing it.

I was driving home from Chicago to St. Louis on a rainy Sunday afternoon with my mother in the car.
To say it was rainy, in fact is a gross understatement. It was pouring.
The traffic was heavy and as we passed several semi trucks in a row.
The rainwater splashed on my windshield and
made it very difficult to see.
I thought, that if I can just get past this last truck, I can get in the right-hand lane and slow down.

I did pass that truck, but as I began to change lanes,
I could feel the rear of the car begin to fishtail on the wet highway.
Before I knew it, we were spinning around in the middle of the highway.
Only a guardrail kept us from flying off the road completely.
When we finally came to a stop, we were facing the on-coming traffic in the right-hand lane.
I looked up to see, no more than 20 yards away,
two of the semi trucks stopped side by side, holding up the traffic behind them.
That gave me time to get my wits about me, get the car turned around and go on.

Needless to say I have been a big supporter of truckers ever since.
But more than this, I believe that these two were provided by God
that day for our protection against what could have been a terrible accident.
I don't know if there were actual angels in those trucks,
but they might as well have been the fiery cherubim of Genesis 3 for all I knew that day.
