"You can never go wrong when you give someone your Smile!"
All about Me
Hi! My name is Connie Van Amerongen. I was born on the twelfth of February, in 1965. I am confined to a wheelchair because of Cerebral Palsy, but I can talk up a storm! (Just ask the people that know me!) I have three older brothers, a younger brother and a younger sister. I also have lots of nephews and nieces! I love kids! I was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. My family and I moved to Grimsby, when I was a year old. I attended school at the Niagara Peninsula (Crippled) Children's Centre in St. Catharines for seventeen years, from 1969 until 1986. I loved it there! Since then, I've taken some grade twelve English and grade eleven writing courses by correspondence. Those courses were a lot of work, but I'm glad I did them. I also took a course in how to read and write Dutch. After I finished my schooling in St. Catharines, I did some volunteer work, first for three and a half years at the Grimsby Museum, then for about six years at the John Calvin School in Smithville - typing, cataloguing, etc. I worked there up until September of 1994. In September of 1994, I moved out of my parents' home to live with my friend and caregiver, Gail. I first met her in July of 1993, when she volunteered as my counselor at "ANCHOR SUMMER CAMP." Gail became my full-time caregiver in June of 1994. (She lived with my parents and I, for three months until she and I, moved into an apartment in Orangeville. Gail and I get along really well (most of the time, anyway!):-) Since moving out of my parents' home, I've had more opportunities to do more things, meet new people, and make new friends. Some of these friends have been able to help Gail look after me.
I enjoy reading and writing. I spend a lot of time on my computer. These are just a few of the things that keep me busy! Besides reading and writing, I also enjoy making my own cards. I enjoy different types of music, including: choirs, musicals, organ, piano and guitar. I I also collect dolls. I have over sixty of them!! Wow! I've been a confessing member of The Canadian Reformed Church of Orangeville for several years. I've really enjoyed living in Orangeville, but now, (As of September 1, 2002), D.V. it seems that God wants me to be a resident of ANCHOR HOME in Beamsville. I'm glad that Gail is planning to work there as well!! Gail is very special to me! There are some BIG CHANGES ahead for both of us... Sometimes, I don't understand what God's Will is for my life, but I know that He knows what is best for me, and that He will take care of me, WHEREVER I AM! One of the nice things about moving to Beamsville, is the fact that I will be/am close to my family again! Another nice thing about my moving back to that area, is that Gail will be able to have more time off, and me?!?! I will be able to regularly attend the Church where I grew up, The Canadian Reformed Church of Lincoln!!
