Alma Lea Gardner McKnight, was born  September 28, 1870 the daughter of William Solomon Gardiner (son of Elisha Gardiner and Chlorinda Weathersby) and Martha Eugenia Moore (daughter of Thomas Moore and Elizabeth Swearingen).  Alma married Charles N. McKnight in Liberty but family  moved to McComb (in neighboring Pike Co.) in 1898.  At the turn of the century, she began writing down memories of her family, especially those of her grandmother Chlorinda Weathersby Gardiner and recounting her family's history.  A few years before Chlorinda's death in 1920, she sat with Alma and told her not only as much as she knew about her (and her husbands) ancestry, but also several stories of her own life.

Alma's great-granddaughter Melise Leech collected and transcribed these memoirs and has given permission for them to be placed on the internet.  They have been left the way they were received--divided into 18 records each with a brief title and author statement.  While most of the titles are indeed descriptive of their contents, they contain information about many people not directly connected.  Hopefully Alma Lea Gardner McKnights foresight will give modern researchers information not otherwise obtainable about their family.
