I have always been a collector of Carousel Horses
figurines, miniature & plates but the one thing that was missing was a full size
or even 1/4 size horse & with the prices of a horse when found was
always a bit to much for this lady.
I have always enjoyed carving small figures & recess carvings
of parrots that I would enter at the South Carolina State Fair.
Which I was honored with a ribbon quite a few times.
So being my creative self I started my current project of a 1/4 size horse.
As you can see my horse is still in its unpainted state
the reason being that well... I'm not done yet.
Everyone asks "how long does that take"
Answer: " I have no idea, I only carve when I feel creative"
I still have some light carving left & the grand task
of sanding (oh joy!!!)
Here is a quick How I created my carousel horse.
I used basswood as it is a wonderful wood to carve with.
Then there was making the pattern on poster board & cutting it out
Next since I don't have a band saw I had to use my scroll saw which means that instead of
gluing & clamping the individual pieces and then cutting them out
I had to cut each piece separately, then glue & clamp.
That gave me the basic boxed body waiting to be created.
After many hours sitting on the livingroom floor carving away
& filling up my flower beds with the wood chips
I did create my personal Carousel Horse.
So it just goes to show what one can do when one sets their mind to it.
I hope you enjoyed your stay & enjoy the Carnival
