Tribal wisdom SAYS
When one discovers that one is riding a dead horse
best strategy is to dismount !!

HOWEVER !
In organizations
One often finds other strategies being employed.
For example:

1. Buy a stronger whip.

2. Change riders.

3. Say things like, "This is the way we've always ridden this horse."

4. Appoint a committee to study the horse.

5. Arrange visits to other sites, to see how they ride dead horses.

6. Strengthen and amplify the dead horse riding standards.

7. Appoint a tiger team to revive the dead horse.

8. Create a training session to improve dead horse riding ability.

9. Investigate the state of dead horses in today's environment.

10. Hold a press conference and declare, "This horse is not dead."

11. Blame the horse's parents.

12. Point out that the private sector largely ignores dead horse research.

13. Harness several dead horses together to improve teamwork.

14. Explain that nothing can be done about the dead horse in today's regulatory environment.

15. Declare that "No horse is too dead to beat."

16. Provide additional funding to improve the horse's performance.

17. Do a study to determine whether contractors can ride the horse more cheaply.

18. Declare that the horse is actually better, faster, and cheaper while dead.

19. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.

20. Revise the performance requirements for horses.

21. Develop virtual reality simulations of the horse so that the true extent of its "deadness" can be explored.

22. Explain that the horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.

23. Announce that the dead horse is, in fact, a unique national asset.

24. Declare that the dead horse performs a critical safety function and cannot be replaced by existing       technology.

25. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.

SPECIAL ADDITIONS FROM READERS

26. Get government grants to research dead horse's effect on minorities,(&/or role in pay equity, equal opportunity for dead horses .... the possibilities are endless) ---- Is it a State or Federal responsibility??.....(Thanks Peter T.)
