Each person needs to sit back to review all that has passed
They must evaluate all the wisdom they’ve amassed
If you open your eyes and let your thoughts be free
You will find there are different people in the reflection that you see
We learn lessons from others who have made ripples there
The greatest came from loving friends and family who took the time to care
Sometimes it was a friend or solace found on high
If the water is still now then you know the reason why
The pool may just be a figment of your mind
Never underestimate the value of what we leave behind
Understanding that wisdom came only after many years
Sometimes sadly it was us who had to shed the tears
If we can feel the pain of others by watching where they walk
Then we can learn to change direction, when we approach that fork
Since others have walked this way, we should know a safer place to start
We need not walk across the coals to know the fire is hot
As our children will have to walk some of the same steps we take
Then help them know the consequence of they decisions they might make
Stepping back now we can see a smoother way
Hopefully we learned from what others had to say
There is no doubt that the reflections are the choices that we made
If we learn from our own experiences then it is a just price we have paid
May your reflections yield a peaceful state of mind
Hopefully inner peace is what we all should find
