About My Horses and Life on a Farm
I own two Appaloosa
horses. Susie Q is 19 years old and Brandy is 5 years old. Susie Q and
Brandy are mother and daughter. Brandy was a surprise to me and my family.
We were not sure if she was pregnant and sure enough she was. I have been
riding horses since I was 12 years old. I bought Susie Q on September
30, 1991. It was a thrill at 13 years old to own a horse. I
took horseback lessons one to two times a week and I showed her at 4-H
and BRVHA horse shows. Susie Q was originally a gaming horse.
She was an excellent gymkhana horse. I barrel raced her in a few
shows and did very well. After Brandy was born, separating them was
extremely difficult. During the summer, I took Brandy to the place
I took my lessons and she stayed there while I showed Susie Q through the
summer. Finally at the age of 4 Brandy was broke. I was very
nervous the first time I rode Brandy. It was a thrilling experience.
She was trained very well and she spooked now and again, but I held on
for the ride. It has been quite an experience living on a farm my
whole life. My dad would milk the cows and in the summer I would
bale hay with him. I got alot of scratches on my legs from that.
I grew up with a lot of different animals
and it was great. Now that I live in the city I feel as though I
am learning the other part of life I never saw.
