BRACEWELL GENEOLOGY PAGE

(What's new?  The overall look of the page.  The content has basically stayed the same, but I will be focusing on putting some new stuff up here soon.  If you haven't already, visit Keith Braswell's page for great new photos of the Bracewell Church in England and some surrounding countryside--see the link to those photos below.)

Welcome to the Bracewell Geneology Page. The basic purpose of this page is to provide a place to link pages about the Bracewell Family. You should know that there are over 50 counted spellings of the Bracewell name, Braswell being the most common. By the way, the "w" is supposed to be silent though it is sounded out in my family.

If you are a Bracewell, of any spelling, and looking for geneological information, then try Keith Braswell's geneology page. Lots to look through there. You're bound to find lots information and "cousins" you never knew you had!  My disclaimer:  I am not a geneologist!  I am interested in my family and am lucky to be a member of one that has done some meticulous research already.  I have merely reproduced that which someone else has has worked hard to research and document.  My thanks to all of you geneologists!

Most Bracewells in America are related to the line of Reverend Robert Bracewell who came to America in 1656 from England. (Some Bracewells, of the same line emigrated here later.) Reverend Bracewell was the fourth minister of St. Luke's Church in Jamestown, Virginia and served as minister until his death in 1668. This church was referred to as "The Old Brick Church" and is the oldest building of English construction in the United States. The church is still in existance and is maintained by the State of Virginia.

You can view an explanation of a possible reason of Why the Bracewells Came to America, by Joe Taylor, a family historian. Carey Bracewell also has some interesting reading on this very thing. A link to his page is below. This is a picture of the Parish Church, Bracewell West Riding, Yorkshire, England.   Photo by Karen Braswell.  Go to Keith Braswell's Geneology Page for more of Karen's wonderful photos.

You can view some civil war letters written by Bracewells in Georgia.  (Oh no, I misplaced the letters!  I will finish posting them after I have found them again.)
