LINKS

Some of my other pages have an excellent listing of Hello Kitty, Texas (and Austin),
and Japanese Graphics links.  (The Japanese Graphics page is a prototype and a new mega-site
of Japanese Graphics and Links will be uploaded by the end of this year.)  Dead links are
a pet peeve of mine, so if you find any dead links here, please e-mail me and let me know.

Organizations

The Japan America Society of Austin - This is what keeps me out of the bars at night.

NAJAS - The National Association of Japan America Societies.

The Austin Japan Association - The University of Texas student group.

Japan Travel Updates - Homepage of the Japan National Tourist Organization.

Austin Oita Sister City Committee - One of Austin's seven sister city programs.  They work so hard!

Japan Industry and Management of Technology Program/IC2 Institute - Located here in Austin and part of the UT conglomerate.  If you live here in Austin, they offer a great Japanese speaker series and it's free!

Culture

Takashi's Home Page - Personal home page of Takashi Harada in Saitama, Japan.  This is a fun site with lots of "real people" links--Japanese TV, J-pop, Japanese slang and what I liked the most--explanations of common Japanese traditions.  Lots of my Japanese graphics came from his page.  If you have a question about anything Japanese, e-mail him.  His English is very good and he's also very nice and will try to help you out!

Mike-papa's Cafe Asia - Mike-papa has a diary entry at the beginning of the website which he regularly updates.  I like this very much as it gives a current perspective of a Japanese native.  Lots of other interesting things to read and view too.

Kaidan: Japanese Ghost and Monster Tales - I loved this site!  When I was little, just about all the bedtime stories my mom knew were scary Japanese ones.  My brother had to sleep with his light on until he was ten!  The Japanese are great in this genre.  Also contains good gaming info.

Mike's Rhythm & Beats/Asian-Caucasian Issues - Some very insightful thoughts on being Asian-Caucasian.  Mike is Chinese/Australian.  If you're Asian-Caucasian, this is a good site to visit.

Hanafuda Homepage - An interesting page about Japanese cards--Hanafuda.

Mt. Fuji Live - See a picture of Mt. Fuji live.

Sopporo Live - Live shots of different areas of Sopporo, Hokkaido.

Seto Bridge Live - Can you tell I'm into live shots of Japan?

Prefectural Guide - Actually a page listing the prefecture's bird and flower, but each prefecture has a link to a page about the prefecture itself.  A warning: some of the links didn't work and some are Japanese-only.  The link to my birth place Wakayama works and is in English.

A Guide to Japanese Baseball - Get a team profile, including key and foreign players, ticket prices, attendance and addresses.

Nihon no Kotowasa - Japanese proverbs and idioms.  Has links to other countries proverbs at the bottom.

Nihon-no-kotowaza - Another Japanese Proverbs and Idioms site.  This one is broken up by category and you can see the it written and spoken in Japanese.

Japan through Young Eyes - An engaging site produced by NTT Telemarketing in Japan.  (Their sites are good.)

Fuminoya - I loved the beautiful black and white photos of Japanese women.  "Good Old Memories."

Castles of Japan - Very nice site and easy to browse.

Kids Web Japan - You don't have to be a kid to like this site!

Resources

Shodouka Launchpad - Go here and you can view Japanese characters without using special software when visiting Japanese-written sites.

Okay Japanese! - Search Japanese sites by entering a search word in English.

Travelers Japanese with Voice - Easy-to-use site.

Japanese Counters - No, this isn't for counting hits to your webpage...but is a resource for learning how to count in Japanese.  It's not like English where you count everthing 1, 2, 3 with the exception of using terms like a few, couple, tons, etc. when you want.  In Japanese things are counted using all kinds of different terminology depending on factors such as size or shape of what you are counting.  Useful site.

Yamada Language Guides -  Links to all kinds of Japanese Language sites plus fonts, mailing lists and news groups.  Visit their main page for similar pages in lots of other languages.

Asahi Newspaper - Get Japanese news in English.

Twinbridge Software Corporation - You can purchase a Japanese Text Processing program here. Let me know if there is any free Japanese text processing software out there.

Townpage - Japan Telephone directory in English. Contains Japan Yellow Pages and city maps.

Other Japan Links Pages

The Japan Ring - Good place to start browsing Japan-related sites if you're not looking for anything in particular.  I enjoyed going through these.

VOW'eL NeT - I liked the selection of links on this page relating to Kyoto and Japan.

Daves Japan Home Page - What distinguishes this page is its selection of Shinto and Buddhism links and its war crimes links.  Has lots of other links too.

Gateway Japan - Professionally-done site that is easy to browse.

Links to Japanese Topics - This site is a bit on the "techie" side.  Good list of Japanese papers and magazines.

Beyond the Black Stump - An Australian website with very good Japan links. Go to their homepage to find TONS of cool stuff to cruise through.

BGS Japanese Resource Page - This mega-link Japan site has saved me the trouble of listing a ton of links cuz they're all here--Japanese language, manga and anime, history, culture, religion and temples, education and schools, living in Japan, sports and games, food, art, music and entertainment, sightseeing, cities and towns, newspapers and current affairs, newsgroups and more.
