"Wind Beneath My Wings"

MOM'S THOUGHTS

I had a baby my senior year in high school. Yeah, I was
young, I wasn't married,
but I loved Richard and I wasn't giving up my baby.
I finished high school in 1983 and
became an LPN in 1984.
My parents stood by me through all
this and still do today.
Thanks to both of you from the bottom of my heart!
In December of 1988 I married my best friend, Steve.
He didn't have any children and I always wanted two.
We tried for several years, but after 2 miscarriages,
a tubal pregnancy and years
of infertility treatments, we gave up.
In December of 1994, Steve adopted Richard.
Five days later the three of us had a ceremony
pledging our love and commitment
to each other as a family.
I'll love you both forever and a day!!
In October of 1996 we bought a house of our own.
There was a room that would be perfect
for a nursery. Everyone told me that was an omen.
On January 31, 1997 I found out I was pregnant!
I could hardly believe that it was true. My husband and I
didn't want to get too excited. We were afraid we'd
be disappointed again. On February 6th(my b-day)we had an ultrasound
that showed I was pregnant with one child and it was in the correct place.
My due date was October 9th. We could hardly wait!
About 15 weeks into the pregnancy we were told
that there was an increased risk of our baby having Down Syndrome.
On June 3rd(Steve's b-day)we had a Level III ultrasound.
We were having a boy!
We also had an amniocentesis and 2 days later were told
that our son did have Down Syndrome.
We had a tough time with that news and even
thought about terminating the pregnancy, but couldn't follow through.
Thank God for that! We had been blessed!
How could we change God's will for us.
Well, we could have, but how would we
have lived with ourselves after doing that.
I started having contractions in my 25th week and had some
spotting off and on, but all was fine(with bed rest).
After three trips to the hospital with false labor,
Tristan was born on September 18, 1997(3 weeks early).
I never imagined that I'd have a natural delivery!
Nor did I ever think it would be such
a moving experience, with my husband and mother-in-law by my side.
That was the best gift I could have ever gotten.
Just to see the look in Steve's eyes when Dr. Channell
laid Tristan on my stomach and he looked up at his daddy.
I was laughing and crying with pure joy!
Our dream had finally come true!!
I have a chronic pain condition called, FMS.
I had to give up my career because of it.
There are times because of the pain,
fatigue and anxiety that it is hard to care for Tristan,
but I would not change a thing about my life
as far as Tristan is concerned.
I couldn't imagine life without our little miracle!
Remember, God does things on his time.
He will answer your prayers. It may not always
be the answer that you were looking for or
be exactly when you want it to be,
but it will always be the right answer
at exactly the right time.
Tristan is a dream come true!
An angel sent from God!
He is a prayer answered!
He is my life, the one who keeps me going!
He truly is the wind beneath my wings!
(as is Steve and Richard).

He's on tree number four near the bottom.
