My new Doctor told me I have Fibromyalgia. I new I had it because my sister has it real bad and I had the same symptons but I was happy to hear a Doctor say it. My brother's Doctor said there was no such thing. I am sure he has it too. I tried 3 diffe ent prescriptions but could not stand the way it made me feel. They were anti-depressants and I felt like I was in LaLa Land. I chose to just hurt with it. I try to avoid the cold, dampness, etc. Thank you for sharing. Patricia.

I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a little over a year ago. I was disabled by a horse accident almost 9 yrs ago, so with all my other problems, it never crossed my mind, or the doctors, that there was something else. So now I have a name for the pai . My Dr. put me on Celebrex recently. It helps some. I have good & bad days. I do spend alot of time in bed. I am only 45, and I feel 145. I hope one day they find a cure, or even a cause.

A real nice and informatief site, and here i read there are many more people with FM on earth, most times you only find the people who does'nt understand you. It is now 12 years ago that she taold me iit is FM, after searching for 7 years. The only thing you here is, your so young!!!Come on......Now the children are older it is different, but every year the pain is more and more. And you can do less. Hii There, Just wanted to let you know that I had stumbled upon your site looking for good links to add a fibromyalgia link page. I have had one in the past but as time goes on the links keep going dead. I too suffer from Fibromyalgia and the pain is not all that g es with this disease, at this point I have had to have a couple of surgeries for dislocation of a joint from the disease pulling them apart. Hello there, God Bless YOU! I, too, have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. After being involved in two major car accidents last year (1998), the last one by a tractor-trailer that ran over the back of our car while we were sitting at a traffic light. Needless to sa , my poor back, neck, head, hips and legs give me a fit. It was only after the 8/10/98 accident that my left elbow and my left chest were so extremely painful, black and blue all this time...I thought maybe I had AIDS, as bruises usually heal very fast o me. Thank God the AIDS test came back negative...but then, one has to have physical contact to "catch" something. My primary care doctor sent me to many, many specialists in the Boston area; they performed MRI's, bone scans, xrays, EMG's and did all ty es of physical therapy...nothing worked!!! Finally the neurologist asked me if it could all be in my head??? If he had not been a good friend, I probably would have changed doctors. Then, a couple of months ago, I had taken all the pain I could handle. .seeing a therapist (mental health) for over a year...I told him that I was ready to end it all. By chance that Sunday, the Parade Magazine did a story on fibromyalgia...when my friend and I read the story, we both had tears from finally knowing that the e was a reason for all this pain. I am waiting on admission for a month's treatment in a local rehab hospital...Blue Cross is trying to hold things up as they say my coverage does not include in-patient coverage for physical therapy...they just do not wa t to spend the $40,000 for the admission. They will though, all doctors and therapists now say it is a medical necessity. My family and children do not want to accept this diagnosis, but they live in NC and I live near Boston. About all I am good for r ght now...at least until I can learn to deal with the pain...is my family genealogy, something I dearly love and have done for 30 plus years! Good luck in your treatment...they will start off with medication to force me to sleep...by then I will have my outh guard so when I grind my teeth, my teeth do not continue to fall out...literally!!! Because of the major trauma of the tractor-trailer running over us, I have major nightmares and seem to continually be running from the truck, no matter what shape o form it is in...somehow it picks me up either in Boston and takes me to NC, or vice versa. Anyway, sleep is something I have about 2 full hours daily. My throat is sore one day and not the next...my temp fluctuates all day long, with no explanation. T e painful pressure points are the top of the shoulders and neck, chest bone, both elbows, both hips, both knees...as well as my head hurts constantly and the bottom of my feet are so very painful and tender, I have a most difficult time trying to walk. I addition to this, since the accident, I have gained up to 270 lbs!!! What a tubbo...so, the depression has been so severe, there have been days when I have cried the entire day, heaving just trying to breathe. One day I would vomit all day then the nex day have diarrhea. That Parade article sure did save me, now to get on with the knowledge of how to deal with the pain. After (another trait is forgetfulness...I forgot what I was talking about) sleep, they will use hot packs on my neck, back and butt o relax me. Then they plan aqua therapy so I can learn to move again. Even if the pain stays, which they already have warned me it will, just knowing how to deal and having a complete diagnosis...knowing it is not in my head...will help me tremendously. I also have Fibromyalgia. I found out after I had both my hands operated on at WVU Hospital for carpal tunnel. I was still in pain and couldn't understand why and then they referred me to another doctor and he said I had Fibromyalgia. It is hard to get out of bed some mornings but I do because I have a husband and a son to take care of. I don't think they understand because I do feel half way decent somedays and others I don't. I do take vitamin B6 everyday. Just wanted to let you know your not alone know what your going through. Take care.

I am a Leavitt and find that the tendancy towards FM for me, seems to come from this line. I just know about an uncle who committed suicide because of undiagnosed fibromyalgia back in the early 40's. From listening to his history, I feel sure that this w s the cause of his pain.
