My direct Deshazo line

Photos of my line

1. John Deshazo (b.by 1815)
md. Mahala/Mahaly Willoughby (b.ca.1817 GA) on 01 July in Houston Co., GA.

Records indicate that John was the eldest son of Robert Deshazo (b.ca. 1792 SC). Unfortunately, John died thirty some years before his father. No record has been found directly stating that he was Robert Deshazo's son (no will, etc.). However, census, tax, land and store records show that Robert was the only Deshazo male in the area besides Louis Deshazo (over in Putnam Co., GA) who had male children of an age that would correlate with John's marriage. Louis left a will in Putnam county, in which he states his children. John was still living and not one of them. John died in late 1833 or early 1834, while he was still a newlywed.

2. Aaron (went by Deshasier) (b. late Spring, 1834 GA)
md. Letha Pate in Cowetta Co., GA 1852
md. Catharine Vessell in Fayette Co., GA 1863
md. Margaret Louise Winters in Oct. of 1864, Greene Co., TN.

Aaron was born after the death of his biological father, John. He was raised by Richard Smith, whom his mother married (in Bibb Co., GA) shortly after his birth in Spring of 1834. Richard was a quite wealthy landowner. Aaron lived with Richard, Mahaly, possibly the younger of his step-siblings (Richard's from his previous marriage - shown on 1830 census), and his half-siblings Richard Jr., Elizabeth, and John Smith until Richard's death in 1849. Upon Richard's death, his estate was administrated by Turner Smith (his brother) and John Smith (his eldest son from his first marriage). It appears that either Mahaly was granted very little from the estate. I have not been able to locate her in 1850. Aaron and his siblings are found on the 1850 census in the home of his maternal uncle, Solomon Willoughby in Pike Co., GA. As far as I have found, she never remarried. She is enumerated in the home of her son, Thomas Smith, who was born in 1850, following the death of his father, Richard. She is shown as his mother, Mahaly Smith.

Aaron married 3 times. I do not know the reasons for the first 2 separations that lead to the next marriages. He and Letha evidently had one daughter, Milly Deshasier, who was raised in Fayette county, presumably by relatives or good friends, David and Eady (Stent) Drennan. During his service in the Civil War, he met my 2nd great grandmother, Margaret Louise Winters. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Winters of Green County, Tennessee. They married in October of 1864 and lived in Tennessee through 1870, where they are shown on the U. S. Census of Greene County. They later moved to Crawford Co., Arkansas where they raised the rest of their family until Louise's death about 1889. Thereafter, Aaron did his best to run their farm until he lost the land and made a living traveling to work harvesting crops. He died about 1892 while working fields in Texas. He must have died near Waco, TX, because the children were put in an orphanage in that area. Due to the lack of records available, I have not been able to verify this information. Aaron certainly disappeared during this time. I have not been able to find him on the 1900 census. I have a land record from the U.S. Department of the Intereior, Bureau of Land Management, which shows Aaron Deshasier purchasing 140 acres of land in Arkansas on Feb 24, 1888. It also shows that the land patent was "canceled "by R. & R. on Aug. 7, 1894. This would correlate with what Palmer related. I did find Palmer on the Polk Co., AR census in 1900 as a farm hand. He says he ran away from the orphanage, and went back to Arkansas.
