This Richard Deshazo is shown on the King and Queen County, VA Personal Property and Land tax lists for the years 1782-1799. His parents are not documented. He is certainly the son or grandson of one of the earlier Deschazant men of this area. To my knowledge, no wills have been discovered that determine exactly which was his father. Richard does not apear on the 1790 census record for King and Queen County. He is shown purchasing land in Person County, North Carolina on June 25th, 1793 (deed book pgs. 104 and 105). He stays in Person county, NC from this point until his death. His will is recorded in Person County, NC and can be viewd from the main DESHAZO ANCESTORS page under WILLS.

The King and Queen county personal property tax lists, together with the will of Richard in Person county, show that he is the same person. This is established by comparing the names of his listed slaves on the tax records to those of the slaves that he wills to his sons. They are the same as are the names of the sons that appear on both records. It is also convenient that he disappears from all King and Queen county records as of his move to Person county, North Carolina.

The ages of his sons are estimated using tax and census records. William md. Gincy King in Person Co., NC and lived just over the border in Henry County, VA. He has U.S. Military records that can be retrieved stating such. Edmond and Robert Bohanon are shown on the 1800 Person Co., NC. This census lists their ages as 26-45 years old. This would have them being born between 1755 and 1774, which correlates with the King and Queen Co., VA tax records. Clem is shown on the 1810 census as being under ten years of age, which puts him born between 1790 and 1810. However; Clem is shown on the 1850 Hickman Co., TN census as 74 years old, born in Virginia.

Richard is shown and listed as a Revolutionary War patriot on Ms. Roddys List as a contributor to the support of the war. After his death, his son Robert appears to have stayed in Person County. Edmond and Clem went up to Tennessee. William stayed in Henry County, VA where his military pension record (no. W1832; served from 1777 to 1780) states that he died on 24 April 1839.
