According to U.S. Population census records (1850 Twiggs co., Ga. and 1860 Pulaski Co., GA), Robert Deshazo was born about the year 1791 or 1792. 1795 land records show a William and Barbara Deshazo both signing for property in Edgefield, SC. The 1800 Edgefield Co., SC census certainly indicates that Robert was enumerated in the home of William Deshazo and his wife. About 1809, Robert (now about age 18) moved with his parents to Pulaski Co., Georgia where William Deshazo is shown on land, tax and court records through 1815. A Robert Deshazo is also shown, but this is said to have been William's father, Robert (b.ca. 1730 NC; d.ca. 1815 GA). Robert (the subject of our note) is found on land tax digests in nearby 1818 in Twiggs Co., Georgia along with his father, William and a Jno. Deshazo. Early 1826 store account records show Robert and his brother, Richard purchasing store items at Raines Store in Marion, Twiggs Co. In August of 1827, he signs as a witness on a piece of land located in Houston county for John Deshazo (presumably his brother). The 1830 and 1840 U.S. census of Twiggs Co., GA indicate that Robert had at least two sons and two daughters. Robert is shown in Twiggs county until sometime after the death of his younger brother, Richard in early 1853. He is shown as administrator of the estate of Richard on land tax digest records. Next, he is found in Pulaski county near his only known son, William W. Deshazo on the 1860 census. Robert is not shown again on any records that I have found. In 1865, his son, William dies. The estate record for William Deshazo (on file in Pulaski Co., GA) indicates that the land that Robert owned had been inherited by William.
