General Cleaning



For sparkling clean windows and mirrors, use rubbing alcohol in place of your regular window cleaner. Pour the alcohol into a spray bottle. Alcohol is much cheaper than window cleaner.

Have some cola that is going to waste? Don't throw it down the sink, throw it into the toilet bowl. Swish it around and let it sit for a while and your bowl will be clean.

Never throw an old toothbrush away because they come in handy for all sorts of cleaning jobs!

Cold tea..(no cream or sugar)..makes a super cleaner for all your woodwork like baseboards, cupboards, closet doors etc. NOT for painted woodwork or furniture.

To clean fabric lampshades, use the heel of a loaf of bread and gently wipe lampshade. When done, throw the bread outside for the birds(*JJ)

If an egg breaks on the floor, sprinkle it generously with salt, let it dry, and then just sweep up the egg(Lori)

To remove pet hair easily from cloth furniture, wear a latex glove(the kind doctors wear)and run it over the furniture. The hair will stick to it. Rinse the glove off, let it dry, and use it again and again(Kinberly)

A sock that has lost it's mate makes a good dusting cloth. Put it over your hand like a glove and dust away(Amie)

To clean your microwave, place a cup of water inside and bring the water to a boil. Let the water boil for about five minutes to loosen the stains, and then spray some cleaner inside and wipe it down(Vonne)

Never clean the glass tray from the microwave in the dishwasher as it will crack when put back in the microwave(Vonne)

To remove scuff marks from tile floors, put a little bit of rubbing alcohol onto a cloth or cotton ball and rub the marks gently(Vicky)

Here is a formula for a home made glass cleaner that works great. First you need an empty one gallon container. Then add: 1/2 cup of sudsy amonia, 1 pint of rubbing alcohol, 2 teaspoons of liquid dishwahing soap, 4 tablespoons lemon juice, and then water to fill the container to the top(Becky)

For easy window cleaning, put 2-3 drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid into 4 cups of warm water. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and wipe windows. Then use a squeegee to remove water wiping the squeegee dry after each stroke(Denise)

For a dull spot on a hardwood floor, use a piece of waxed paper and rub it over the dull spot
