We, the people, believe that it is our fundamental birthright to know our biological heritage and to have equal access to our original birth records, whether it be the Adoptee, Birth Parent, or Adoptive Parent (only when the adoptee is under the legal age of majority, which is noted to be under the age of 18, or according to each State's law).

We urge each and every member of Government, on the State and Federal level to:

1. Learn about the far-reaching effects of adoption on adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents for generations to come; AND

2. Support more enlightened and fair legislation for legally opening of sealed adoption records; AND

2. Consider and support legislation to ensure that equitable treatment to all involved in an open adoption; AND 4. By sealing adoption records, it in turn prevents an adult adoptee from knowing his or her medical, cultural, and religious history; AND

5. Furthermore results from a contract made between other parties, in which the adoptee had no consent in the contract and at the legal age of majority, said contract should be abolished and rendered as null and void from that point on; No longer binding to any party, including the adoptee; AND

6. Denying one group of people the knowledge of their roots and birth rights, and histories was first legalized in this country with the practice of slavery, but it was outlawed in the 19th century; AND

"That we do favor the opening of all adoption recoreds." by birth parents, adoptees themselves and the adoptive parents (only when the adoptee is under the age of majority, which is noted to be 18 years of age, or according to each State's laws).

When the adoptee reaches the age of adulthood (individual State laws applicable in each case) NO CONTACT will be allowed with the adoptee if one or both biological parents committed physical or emotional harm to said adoptee;

Should some form of abuse be known and proven against said biological parents, the adoptee would retain the right to be notified of any search initiated by his or her biological birth parents. Permission by the adoptee MUST be granted before any information or contact is made by or through any private or governmental agency, on behalf of the adoptee's biological birth parents.

At no time will any Government agency stand, stay, stop or otherwise hinder the adoptee's, the birth parent's, or the adoptive parent's right for the adoptee, birth parent, or adoptive parent (only if the adoptee is under the age of majority for the applicable State law, which is generally noted to be under the age of 18 years of age) to seek out the other, respectively.

We also recognize the importance of medical treatment; AND

Every year many adoptees die because there is no program in place to assist them in finding valuable health information. These deaths can be avoided by allowing the opening of all adoption records, when the said adoptee reaches the legal age of majority in the State where he or she currently resides.
