TRANSCRIPT OF TIMOTHY'S 'CLEOPATRA' INTERVIEW ON 'GOOD MORNING AMERICA.'

This interview of Timothy's was pre-recorded on the 18th May 1999 but shown on 'Good Morning America' on the 21st May 1999. Here Timothy is being interviewed by Joel Siegal and there is no studio audience this time.

Timothy: "I had one of the most exciting first days on 'Cleopatra' that I've had on any movie ever."

Joel: "Really?"

Timothy (Timothy talks with passion and wonder): "They built ancient Alexandria in the desert. It started with a... fabulous 300ft barge built in the, in the desert sand, then swept through market places, and squares and streets, through bronze gates 70, 80 feet high right up to 'Cleopatra's' Palace and then they said ok now can you ride a chariot? We're going to do your entrance, so Caesar entered Alexandria with a 1000 men it was like being transformed back."

Joel: "Could you ride a chariot?"

Timothy: "Well by the time I got to the other end I could."

Joel laughs and Timothy laughs.

Joel: "The set is huge!"

Timothy: "It's fabulous!"

Joel: "It's one of the biggest movie sets ever!"

Timothy: "It's like Hollywood must have been in the 30's, or the 20's or the 40's. Everything was being made as we worked, you would walk around this huge area... (Joel laughs) and see people fashioning banners and you know swords and papyrus rafts. You're really aware that you're in a mysterious and exotic, and tangible real world and that's great!"

Joel: "When you would get into costume I mean did, did you feel some of that? Feel some of..."

Timothy: "Well I mean my initial costume was wearing the armour so all I felt was god this is heavy why didn't they make that out of fibre glass? (Joel is still laughing) but the truth is I am glad they didn't because... surrounded by that set wearing those costumes in that armour... you can't help but transform, you do transform. I mean even wearing what you might think of is silly, you know we are all wandering around..."

Joel: "In little skirts and sandals you know?"

Timothy continues: "Skirts and sandals and you think what am I doing on this show? You know I'm walking around in a skirt but after a few minutes in the heat you realize this tunic is the most comfortable, the most easy, the most lovely thing in the world to wear. I mean you... if... we should all be wearing them anywhere we go that is hot in the world there terrifically comfortable (Joel laughs) and easy, and oddly... male.

Joel: "It's been 2000 years and we still know the story. What is it about these 3 characters that ignites the imagination?"

Timothy "I guess love and... seduction have always been fascinating, power, politics ummm ambition, ruthlessness, have also been, always are fascinating, and here you have all those elements ummm centering on a, a woman who actually did seduce, a young woman, who seduced the two most powerful men in the world."

Joel: "And the actress who plays Cleopatra?"

Timothy: "Oh, Leonor... the young girl who with huge commitment plunged into playing this role and there is nothing more exciting then seeing someone go for it, when someone just bites, bites the role, you know and enjoys... it's been fabulous to work with."

Joel: "What do you want people to take with them when they see this... see this film?"

Timothy: "I actually want people to love it, and go along with it and learn something from it and be excited by it and have fun."
