In
the home-video edition of the pilot for David Lynch's television series
Twin Peaks, all of the series' regular characters, as well as its central
question, "Who killed Laura Palmer?" are introduced. At the beginning of
the show, the teenaged Laura is found dead, wrapped in plastic and floating
in a river.
FBI
Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle McLachlan) is brought in to assist Twin Peaks sheriff
Harry Truman (Michael Ontkean) and his staff to find the killer. The bizarre
nature of the residents of the small town is shown to the viewers through
the eyes of Cooper.
This home-video edition of the
pilot-which was shown in movie theaters outside the United States--adds
a rushed conclusion to the mystery of Laura Palmer's death, which doesn't
quite fit with the conclusion that was presented in the series' second
season. Nevertheless, this pilot remains powerful and effective, and is
an excellent beginning to the cult television series.
