Story of two childhood friends, Rocky Sullivan (James Cagney) and Jerry Connolly (Pat O'Brien), who are reunited in the old neighborhood after fifteen years. Rocky has spent his life perpetually in and out of prison and is emerged in a life of crime. Jerry, on the other hand, has become a priest. Though still friends, they end up struggling for the souls of some neighborhood hoodlum boys, who look up to criminal Rocky, but whom Father Connolly is trying to reform. In the best tradition of the thirties Hollywood gangster pics. Memorable and moving ending. Great acting by James Cagney and Pat O'Brien.
