Not for everyone

Raising a bilingual child is not for everybody. The basic guideline is as follows:

If you speak another language as a mother tongue or near the level of a mother tongue then you have a strong incentive or almost an obligation to pass this on to your children.

If you do not speak another language at an intensive level then you might want to teach your child another language. That is your choice. But this section of the Grossman Parenting website does not necessarily apply to you.

The concept is similar to that about passing your knowledge to your children. If you are in a position to pass on a second language to your child then they will definitely benefit from it.

If not, then you may choose to pay on the other concepts or benefits which you can do more effectively.
