Some parents feel that they can act in a most professional (but negative) manner when it comes to bilingualism. They may state, in their most authoritative tones, that other parents are doing a wrong thing by raising their child as a bilingual. Some of their reasons may be as follows:

• Parents should listen to the arguments presented by the kindergarten teacher
• Parents should listen to the arguments presented by other professionals
• Other children manage well without the burden of bilingualism
• You should not show off about how your child is "better" than others

That last issue does have a tinge of jealousy, doesn't it? It may be the hidden basis or reason for the other arguments.
