When I was building my first stock car in high school,I was told by someone whose advice I considered gospel, that all you could do with a sedan was take up room on the track. Like the novice I was, I took his advice and switched to a coupe and Old Six Pack never saw a lap as far as I know.
In writing the book, I found out that a lot of guys who really knew actually prefered the handling of the sedan or coach as it was often called. Below are some of those colorful contraptions that tore up the pavement on tracks in the Northeast. I have heard that Mousey Kempster's famous 3k '35 Chevy has been completely restored and should be turning up at Riverhead Raceway in 1999.
Axel's Mucket Mobile
1937 Ford Slantback
Bob Punzi's Sportsman 14
One Of Bill Spade's Many 15x's
Teddy Baranowski spilled his beer when he took The Ballentine Special into the seats at Riverhead in 1964. This was one of my favorite cars running there then. It was a gold '37 Ford with a 406 CI Ford engine. It was an exciting spectacle, but I hated to see it go out like that...bet Ted did too
EVEN THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO
FLEW COACH EVERY NOW & THEN
Curt "Metal Man" Giventer of Saranac, NY read the book and sent me a nice letter and some pics of his fine coach that he ran "down South" on Staten Island in '67. Curt is way up near the Canadian border which just goes to show that the book can bring back great memories to anyone , anyplace. Curt has his coach restored and is looking forward to running it with Mid State Vintage Racing Club. Anyone else who wants to send me pics of their car or a favorite car they saw from the stands please feel free to do so.
Old Blue, one that got away from being cut up and I'm glad it did. This 1936 Plymouth was my personal everyday car from 1991 -95. Like all those above it I miss it too
