Editorial
Several items of interest awaited your correspondent this weekend !
First
was an unexpected addition to the Oxford Tube fleet first spotted London bound on Friday
night
approaching Beaconsfield. In dealer white the Volvo B10M with Plaxton Premiere 350
bodywork, the
only indication of a "Tube" coach was the lettering applied to the front window.
However as can be seen
from the pictures below lettering is also applied to the entry door. It is a 49 seater
with sunken offside
toilet. It is said to be helping maintain schedules during the roadworks on the A34 Oxford
bypass .
New
deliveries of M A N saloons have reached 933. Of great interest is that 932 and 933 have
ORANGE
roofs and are to enter service on the Blackbird Leys route reviving the Blackbird Flyer
branding. 931 is
the last of the blue roofed ones for the 7 group of routes.
132 has been withdrawn from service at Witney and is now a staff shuttle at Oxford.
Ex
Selkent Darts are arriving to replace dual door Oxford Darts and DR627 now SCO 727 has
arrived to join 729.
729 has entered service in red !
703 and 704 (Carousel Darts) have left in exchange to Selkent. Here they are expected to be PD 703 and 704.
808-12
R808-12YUD, Dart SLF/Alexander ALX200s are going to Cheltenham & Gloucester and not as
previously advised. 801-4,7 of the same type have gone to Stagecoach Devon. 806 has gone
to Red & White.
A range
of service changes are taking place at High Wycombe with Wycombe bus. This comes into
effect
on the 8th November 1998. Full details can be found on the Wycombe Bus web page.
231 of
Wycombe Bus has entered the paint shop at Oxford and should be ready to return to service
by Friday of next week.
The Gas
Bus, 399, with Oxford Bus is now in service on 15 road though it alludes being
photographed
in service at weekends and was not in service today the 8th.
Finally
at least 516 has had full Brookes University vinyls applied and we include photos of this
bus in
service en route to the Campus.

Oxford Bus Company at work.
A sunny Saturday in early October 1998 sees 208 turning out of Cornmarket on its way to
Seacourt Park & Ride.
April 1999 will see the end of buses in Cornmarket and indeed cars being able to use High
Street !
638 approaches Gloucester Green during early October 1998. The trees still bearing their
summer clothes.
59, one of the ex Shearings Volvo/Plaxton Paramounts enjoys a wash at Cowley Road Garage.
...whilst outside a lucky shot captured 60, 61 and 62 awaiting service
on Sunday 8th November 1998.
A surprise addition to the Tube fleet is this Volvo B10M in dealer white
but carrying vinyls for the
Oxford Tube and as seen below a notice explaining its presence on the service.

500, the open top Atlantean from Busways has received corporate livery.
The stripes are not applied
in the normal way and only appear round the base of the bus. (8/11/98)

516, operating the Brookes University contract, has received adverts to indicate same.
...and is seen here after turning left out of Wheatley and encountering
flood water off the junction.

The new M A N s are starting to carry lettering to indicate their
features.

The training fleet of Stagecoach Oxford now includes 1010, the yellow
Bristol LH. Oxford vinyls
have been applied and it joins the other LH with Plaxton bodywork and the ex Tube Leyland
Tiger.
Visiting coaches to Oxford.
R766DUM is a Van Hool bodied Volvo which was in
Oxford on Sunday 8th from its home near Walsall.
